USER INSIGHTS & IDEATION

“Friends are more reliable than reviews you find online.”

Map’t is a native app that gives users a simple way to discover and share their recommendations with friends. Whether you’re traveling abroad or just looking for a new place to eat - everyone wants to get the most out of their trip or experience.

“I don’t always like to make reservations based on online reviews, I prefer to have first hand knowledge.”

THE PROBLEM

Whether it be a restaurant or a trip abroad, how many of us will turn to a friend first to ask for a recommendation? After countless people always asking for a good “date spot” or “where was that cool record store in Mexico City?” What if there was a more streamlined way to send, share and store all those hidden gems you may have collected over the years. The primary research objective was to learn more about how different users are currently discovering, sharing and saving their favorite places.

After distilling the findings from the user interviews it was apparent that for many, people appeared to highly value the insights of someone that has a personal connection to them and knows their likes/dislikes/interests. Users stated they enjoy feeling like a local rather than a tourist. Seeking to find those spots that you would only hear about through word of mouth. The most common methods to send recommendations were email or text. Frustrations with receiving a list through email/text were that they spent too much time trying to locate it or worse, had accidentally deleted it.

“I never remember things or keep tabs on the places I’ve been and I wish I did”

A SOLUTION?

Through multiple rounds of usability testing, adapting prototypes and designs we were able to create a MVP that would initially prioritize the following features:

- Discover, create, compile.

- Keep lists secure and easy to find.

- Offline access. Anytime, anywhere.

- Sharing made easy. Sync contacts to share within your network.

WHAT’S NEXT?

- Implement feedback from last iteration of prototype usability testing.

- Flush out user flows and finalize additional functions and features.

- Build out wireframes for additional screens for profile features, filtering locations, importing lists.

- Establish a concrete visual branding for the product. Continue to explore UI principles and begin to finalize branding and logo design.
